MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Fire Protection of Makati has been trying to contain a gas leak at the basement of a building in Makati City that started Monday.
The city’s fire marshal Samuel Tadeo said over the phone that his team has been addressing the leak since Monday 8 a.m. at the basement of West Tower at the corner of South Super Highway and Del Pilar St in Barangay (village) Bangkal, Makati City.
Tadeo said he has instructed the fire personnel to cordon off the affected area and push away parked vehicles there.
Fire officials confirmed that it was gasoline that was leaking.
With the help of the First Philippine Industrial Corporation (FPIC), responding personnel gathered samples for laboratory testing.
Tadeo said he suspected that the leak came from a pipeline along the South Super Highway from Batangas to the Pandacan Oil Depot.
FPIC workers have been at the scene digging portions at the location of the pipeline to pinpoint the source of the leak, Tadeo said.
